MY NOVEL THOUGHTS:
This book was such a joy to read. This is my first time reading a Carolyn Miller novel and I'm sure I'll be reading more her novels soon. The Elusive Miss Ellison did not disappoint.
""As you have so rightly pointed out, I am a superior female."
The Elusive Miss Ellison, for the most part, takes place in Gloucestershire, (West) England. There's a new earl of the Hampton Hall and the town is in a tizzy... All, but of course Miss Ellison. Lavinia Ellison, as the Reverends daughter and a Servant of God, she has a duty to help those who are sick and in need. They just so happen to be the seventh Earl of Hawkesbury's tenants. And Lord Hawkesbury shows no outward commitment or concern for them. Miss Ellison has no other option than to think the Earl just as bad as his brother - his brother who took her most cherished person. Not to mention he doesn't come to church.
Nicholas Stamford is plagued by guilt and old times he wish he could have changed. When coming to Gloucestershire Nicholas had no intention of falling entranced with everything that is Miss Lavinia Ellison. He is challenged by Lavinia's bold opinions and her blunt observations of his lack of doing - and he finds that he starts to care. After miscommunication and social discrimination and ridiculous obligations, it is but an outrage that binds them to work long side one another.
Dark pasts to judgments to new comers to faith and family secrets - Will Lavinia and Nicolas be able to find their futures. Will boundary be broken and bonds forged? - Well you'd have to read The Elusive Miss Ellison to find out of course!
When it comes to historical romance the women in my family, myself included, love them. I requested this book thinking it would be a good read, nothing special and maybe it isn't so special or "different" but it's good and has heart and I loved it! Nicolas and Lavinia are my, what some people say, OTP (one true pairing). They are so adorably stupid and sassy.
"-Green girls should not be vulgar."
Nicolas and Lavinia are the epitome of what most couples problems today are-Miscommunication and lack of communication. They have this cute and slow burning romance. You know the type-I hate you, now you may be somewhat tolerable, your the only one who gets me, I think I might like you, I can't stand you again, to the - I love you!-type of relationship.
It's a story line as old as time but Carolyn Miller has made me fall in love with it in this fresh and faith testing story that is The Elusive Miss Ellison.
The supporting characters were great as well, not fully fleshed as Nicolas and Lavinia but that's because it was mainly just about them. Although the ending could have been more explained and fleshed out, it was perfect and really couldn't have ended in any better (or cuter) way.
MY OVERALL RATING:
This may be one of my new favorite novels. I loved this book and I think romance lovers, whether they like historical fiction or not, will thoroughly enjoy this novel.
